Residential Locksmith & House Rekey Service

The most common residential call we take is a lockout. The most valuable one is a rekey. If you just moved in, you have no idea how many working copies of your key are out there — previous owners, tenants, contractors, a property manager, a neighbor who watered the plants in 2019. Changing that is cheap and takes about an hour.

Everything
on the van.

Each of these is a job we do routinely, not a keyword list. If what you need is not here, call and ask — the answer is usually yes, and if it is not, we will tell you who to call instead.

01

House and apartment lockout service

We pick, bypass, or decode the lock and get you back inside without damaging the door. Drilling is a last resort, not a default. We ask for identification and proof you live there before we open anything — that protection is the reason you can trust the locksmith your neighbor calls.

02

Whole-home rekey

Rekeying changes the pins inside your existing locks so old keys stop working, while your hardware stays exactly where it is. It is dramatically cheaper than replacing locks and takes under an hour for a typical house. Every exterior door ends up on one new key.

03

Move-in and post-tenant rekey

New home, new rental, end of a lease, after a roommate moves out, after a breakup, after a lost keyring. Any of those is a reason to rekey. Landlords: keying a building alike with a single master turns every turnover into a five-minute job.

04

Deadbolt installation and security upgrades

Most kicked doors fail at the frame, not the lock. Reinforced strike plates with three-inch screws driven into the stud, a solid Grade 1 or Grade 2 deadbolt, and a properly aligned bolt throw do more for real-world security than any amount of electronics.

05

Smart lock installation and service

Keypad, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth deadbolts installed, configured, and — importantly — keyed to match the rest of your house so the mechanical override actually works when the batteries die. We also repair failed motors and dead keypads without destroying the door.

06

Broken key extraction and lock repair

A snapped key in a deadbolt does not mean a new door. We extract it, service the cylinder, and cut a replacement. Sticking locks are usually dirty or misaligned, both of which are repairs, not replacements.

07

Mailbox, cabinet, and safe locks

Cluster mailbox locks, file cabinets, gun cabinets, and residential safes with lost combinations. Small jobs, but they are the ones nobody else wants to take.

CHome & Rekey questions

What people ask us.

Rekey or replace — which do I actually need?

Rekey if the hardware is in good condition and you simply want old keys to stop working. Replace if the lock is worn, damaged, low-grade, or you are upgrading security. Rekeying costs far less. We will tell you honestly which one your door needs, including when the answer is the cheaper one.

How long does a whole-home rekey take?

Most houses take 45 to 90 minutes depending on the number of exterior doors and whether the hardware needs cleaning or repair along the way.

Do you need proof I live there?

Yes. We ask for photo identification and something tying you to the address — a lease, a utility bill, mail, or a vehicle registration. Every reputable locksmith does this, and anyone who skips it should worry you.

Will you damage my door getting in?

Almost never. The overwhelming majority of residential lockouts are opened non-destructively. When a lock genuinely cannot be picked — certain high-security cylinders — we tell you before we do anything irreversible, and we quote the replacement first.
